Gripping Stuff
Tyre development is an ongoing process for any manufacturer, especially when their products are used at all levels of competition around the world. One such manufacturer is DLD Racing, an established and well respected producer of 1/8 off road tyres, wheels and inserts. Recently acquired by the Vepece Group, the company is now poised to further develop and diversify its product portfolio, and we are therefore excited to play our part in this continuing story of success.
Tyres
DLD has an extensive range of competition tyres, available in up to three different compounds, to cater for all types of track surfaces, temperatures and weather conditions. We stock the entire range of covers, but stock levels reflect those which are most suited to the type of tracks we race on in the UK and Ireland.
Here at GB Modelsport, we are all racers, so we fully understand the importance of being on the best tyre to suit the track conditions at any given moment. We also understand that making the right choice is getting increasingly harder as the number of makes, patterns, compounds and inserts is almost endless, and the list grows virtually day by day. Add to that the recent availability of different tyre and wheel sizes and it becomes even more mind boggling as the permutations multiply! What’s more, we also realise that expenditure on tyres is one of most racer’s biggest expenses, which makes it even more critical to be on the right rubber in terms of grip, wear and value for money.
And that is essentially what we believe DLD tyres deliver. A rational tyre range, that is suitable for grass, dirt, Astroturf and multi-surface tracks whether they are fast and flowing, bumpy and technical, wet or dry….we have a tyre that will work for you. The tyre carcass is designed to retain its profile even in the softest of compounds, ensuring that the tread contact patch with the track is maximised at all times. Precision moulding techniques ensure that tyre profile tolerances are consistently maintained from batch to batch. You won’t be trimming away lots of ‘flash’ with DLD tyres, and consequently they require less weight when balancing assembled wheels and tyres. Considering the level of grip and traction that DLD tyres will generate, they also have a reputation for being long lasting and highly resistant to cutting and tearing.
Lastly, ask your retailer about pricing, and we think you will be pleasantly surprised to learn how competitively priced DLD tyres are! And if you prefer to buy your tyres pre-glued, we do those too in all patterns and compounds!
Competition Tyre Patterns
Moonshot
This tyre works well on many dirt tracks, especially where the surface is dusty. It is good on flat and bumpy surfaces, or where the surface is breaking up. Moonshot is also a good choice for Astroturf tracks.

Holeshot
High grip surfaces or when the track blue grooves is where this tyre comes into its own.

Blockpass
Works well on dry Astroturf or high traction dirt track surfaces and soaks up small bumps and holes well.

Splinter
This is a good grass track tyre, especially when the grass isn’t too long and when it starts to wear away. It also works on wet Astroturf or loamy dirt.

ZZ
The distinctive ZZ pattern is ideal for muddy wet surfaces and will keep you flying when most others tyres are spinning up and getting nowhere. It may be old school, but there is still demand for this tyre. It also works on wet grass, when the grass has all but worn away.

Hattrick (Hattrick 2)
This popular tyre works well on a multitude of surfaces, but is best at home on clay or dirt blue groove tracks.

Bashing Tyre Patterns
Enduro
The rougher and tougher the better for this tyre! Only works on high grip surfaces but is ideal for bashing, or engine break-in runs when you want a tyre that lasts and lasts.

Scrape
Like the Enduro, the Scrape is another tyre for leisure use or the club racer running on a worn away grass track. Also good on hard packed bumpy dirt surfaces.

Inserts
DLD manufactures two types of silicone moulded tyre inserts. Ask your dealer for details of tyre/insert options as we give the choice to buy some patterns with or without inserts, as tyre/insert pairs or as pre glued sets on DLD wheels.
A flat profile insert is used for flatter profile tyres or for fast flowing tracks. For rounded profile tyres or bumpy/big-air technical tracks use the rounded profile insert.

Wheels
In addition to our pre-glued sets, you can also buy the D3 buggy wheel (bagged in pairs) in a choice of white or fluorescent yellow. These dished wheels are designed to be dynamically stable with little or no flex under the most extreme loadings to keep the tyre seated flat on the rim. They are easy to clean and are identified by the trademark DLD 5 x twin slot design and DLD logo moulded into the outer face. Internal strengthening is obtained by spiral ribbing and the 17mm hex hub mount is recessed so that the wheel nut does not protrude beyond the outer face of the wheel.

Don’t forget to use DLD CA when gluing your wheels and tyres. See details under the Fluids menu.
